Watercolour journeys, quiet faces and a sketchbook that goes everywhere.
The work of Gunjari, an artist based in Bangalore. Travel sketches from Goa to Kathmandu, portraits in oil pastel and gouache, studies after the masters, charcoal, ink and digital illustration.

About me
Gunjari Bhattacharya
Liked something here? My new paintings show up on Instagram first. Come say hello.
Hi, I'm Gunjari. I paint the places I travel to and the people I can't stop looking at. I have one rule: wherever I go, my sketchbook goes too. Every trip comes home as a page of places and memories, painted on a beach, at a café table, or back at my easel in Bangalore.
I work mostly in watercolour and oil pastel, with gouache, charcoal, ink and digital tools in between. Copying the masters, from Vermeer to Van Gogh and Monet, is how I keep learning. I also draw Daily Sunday Cartoons, a comic about everyday married life, based on years of field research on one husband.
Off the easel
- Budding pianist. When my brushes are drying, I'm at my piano, working through one piece at a time.
- Horror fan. I love horror films and still watch most of them through my fingers.
- Potterhead. A lifelong Harry Potter fan. The Fandom room is the evidence.
- Outlander devotee. I keep showing the series to my husband in the hope that he'll turn into Jamie Fraser. Progress so far: he knows how to wear his kilt.
